E-health as a Sustainable Learning Solution

On 13th March 2025, hundreds of healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators gathered at the Health Valley Event to explore the future of healthcare. One of the workshops focused on e-health as a sustainable learning solution.

Eline Borsboom, Manager of Learning & Development, led this session. In a follow-up conversation, she shares her insights into the key messages of her workshop, the participants’ reactions, and the broader role of digital learning in healthcare innovation.

Q: Why did you choose this topic?

Eline: The workshop focused on the question: how can e-health become a sustainable learning solution that truly makes an impact? E-health is playing an increasingly significant role in making healthcare more accessible and efficient. However, to create real change, it is essential that e-health applications also educate people – whether patients or healthcare professionals. E-health is not a one-off intervention; it requires a well-structured learning pathway, with attention to target audience analysis, practice, motivation, and support from the environment.

Q: How was your session received by the audience?

Eline: The workshop was interactive. Participants worked on translating an e-health initiative into an appropriate learning solution, which resulted in many creative and diverse ideas. It was particularly notable that many attendees already had experience in developing e-health applications. They pointed out that while much focus is given to design and content, the implementation in practice is often neglected. As a result, the impact of learning solutions is sometimes limited. This reflection led to valuable discussions and was an important takeaway for us from this session.

Q: Were there any other sessions or speakers that inspired you?

Eline: Yes, certainly. One of the most inspiring sessions I attended was on inclusive design. It shared insights on how to make digital learning environments and materials accessible to all users. For us, as an organisation focused on digital learning in healthcare, this is an essential topic.

Q: How does this event contribute to the future of healthcare? And what role do you see for your organisation in this context?

Eline: What I particularly appreciated about the Health Valley Event was how it brings together various healthcare innovations. You can see how broad and ambitious the efforts are to improve healthcare – from technology to people-centred approaches.

For our organisation, there is a significant role to play: we help ensure that these innovations are communicated effectively, enabling healthcare professionals and patients to truly engage with them. High-quality digital learning is crucial to ensuring that new applications are implemented successfully in practice.

Q: What was your personal highlight and overall impression of the event?

Eline: One of the most impressive moments was the contribution of a speaker on inclusive care. It was inspiring to see the impact one person can have, even on a national policy level. It emphasised how important it is to integrate diversity and inclusivity into everything we do – especially in healthcare.

The Health Valley Event is a vibrant and dynamic platform where you gain new knowledge, ideas, and contacts in a short amount of time. For anyone working on innovation in healthcare, this is a valuable event. I would certainly attend again. My advice: plan your day carefully as there is so much to see and do.

“Real impact with e-health starts with learning: understanding your target audience and applying solutions sustainably. The Health Valley Event demonstrated that this is crucial for every healthcare innovation.”
